1. Who is responsible

ShioCast is the controller for personal data handled by the Companion app. You can reach us at hello@shiocast.online for any privacy question or request.

2. What this policy covers

This policy applies to the ShioCaster Companion mobile app on Android and iOS. The shiocast.online website has its own privacy policy and cookie policy.

3. Data the app collects

Companion needs very little to do its job. There is no account and no sign-up for local control.

• Pairing details on your local network: the device name and local network address of the Mac running ShioCaster, used only to find it and connect to it. This stays inside your own network.
• App settings stored on your device: your paired studio, control layout and language preference. These live in the app's own storage on your phone or tablet and are not uploaded to us.
• Optional diagnostics: crash and error reports, sent only if you turn diagnostics on. You can turn them off again at any time.

4. Data the app does not collect

The following are not collected, not requested and not inferred:

• No contacts, calendar, photos, files or location data.
• No advertising identifier, and no advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs.
• No audio from your microphone, and no recordings or show content uploaded to us.
• No browsing history or behavioural profile.
• We never sell personal data, and we never share it with data brokers.

5. Your audio and show content

Companion sends control messages only: transport commands, fader moves, mutes, cues and status. Audio, recordings and show content stay in ShioCaster on your Mac and are never routed through us, unless you explicitly publish them yourself through ShioCast Cloud, which is a separate service you opt into.

6. Permissions the app asks for

Each permission maps to one feature, and you can withdraw any of them in your device settings:

• Local network / nearby devices: required to discover and control ShioCaster on the same network as your phone. Without it the app cannot connect.
• Notifications: optional, used only to tell you about recording or on-air state while the app is in the background.

7. Sharing with others

Local control involves no third party at all. Where we do rely on a processor, for example to receive optional crash reports, that processor acts on our instructions only and may not use the data for its own purposes. We do not share data with advertising networks.

8. Retention and deletion

Settings stored on your device are removed when you uninstall the app or clear its storage. Optional diagnostic reports are kept only as long as needed to fix the fault they describe. To ask for a copy or deletion of anything we hold, email hello@shiocast.online and we will respond within 30 days.

9. Children

Companion is a professional broadcast tool. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

10. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete and port your data, and to object to or restrict its processing. Email hello@shiocast.online to exercise any of these. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority; in the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

11. Security

Local control stays on your own network, which keeps your show data off the public internet by default. Any data that does leave your device is sent over an encrypted connection.

12. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we update this page and the date at the top of it. Material changes are announced on the website, and in the app where it affects how it behaves.
